New Web Filter and Safety Management Updates Built to Give Districts More Control

At Gaggle, our goal is simple: Help schools protect students online while giving district teams the tools, visibility, and flexibility they need to manage that protection efficiently.

Over the past several months, our product team has been working on a series of updates focused on making Web Filter more reliable and configurable, giving admins more self-service control, and helping school staff respond to incidents with better context, faster.

These updates focus on three key areas:

1. Stronger, more consistent Web Filter protection
2. More control in the hands of district and school administrators
3. Faster, clearer context for incident response and records requests

Let’s take a closer look at all of the changes we've made.

1. Stronger, More Consistent Web Filter Protection

Several updates in this release are about closing gaps and making filtering consistent and even more adaptive to new sites.

Policy-level image blurring replaces the district-wide toggle. Image blurring now works at the policy or OU level instead of as a single on/off switch for the whole district. Combined with improved AI blurring performance, districts can tailor image protections by grade level or supervision model, with fewer instances of over-blurring or inconsistent results.

2. More Control in the Hands of District and School Admins

We also focused on giving admins more ways to self-serve and delegate, so day-to-day Web Filter management doesn't have to run through IT or Support every time.

School-level Web Filter admin controls give principals and building leaders a school-scoped experience to manage policy membership and view school-level reports, without needing district-wide access. District admins can delegate day-to-day tasks safely, and building leaders can investigate student access and manage penalty box membership faster, all while policy authoring stays centralized at the district level.

Web Filter reporting has moved to a new platform. To ensure that reporting is as up-to-date as possible, we’ve migrated Web Filter Activity Reports off of AWS QuickSight and onto a new reporting platform. Along with an increase in reporting speed, customers now have access to richer filtering, longer data history, and clearer visualizations. District admins can more easily investigate activity trends and answer questions from staff and families. This new foundation sets us up for additional reporting improvements in the future.

3. Faster, Clearer Context for Incident Response and Records Requests

The last set of updates is about making sure the people responding to incidents, or fulfilling records requests, have the context they need right where they're already working.

Improved Incident Summaries and Excerpts now surface more incident context directly in incident emails, the mobile app, and Portal views. Emergency Contacts and Incident Responders get concise context without having to parse long content threads, helping them understand what happened and decide on the right response faster when response time matters most.

A new "Mental Health" incident category separates lower-acuity concerns from high-risk suicidal ideation. This gives districts a way to build more appropriate, defensible response protocols, reduces unnecessary crisis escalation, and helps staff focus urgent resources where they're needed most.

Continuing to Support Schools and Students

Every update in this release is guided by the same goal: give districts filtering they can rely on, administers the control to manage it efficiently, and incident responders the context to act quickly when it matters. By strengthening core Web Filter protection, extending more control to school and district teams, and surfacing better context in incidents and records requests, we're working to make sure school staff can move faster without giving up oversight.

What's Next?

Along with these updates, the product team has more on the horizon, including continued investment in policy management redesign, expanded parent and guardian controls, and deeper SIS-based policy automation. We'll have more to share as these initiatives move forward.
