Warsaw Community Schools To Implement Safety Tipline

Warsaw Community Schools and Gaggle announced a partnership to keep students and schools safe by providing a simple way for students to report threats of violence, bullying, weapons brought to school, peers in crisis and other urgent situations.

Brad Hagg, WCS chief technology officer, said, “We are honored to expand our partnership with Gaggle in order to keep our students safe while they use technology to create and collaborate.”

The Gaggle SpeakUp Safety Tipline integrates directly with G Suite for Education from Google, which students already use on a daily basis, according to a news release from WCS. There is no need for students to download a mobile app or remember a phone number. SpeakUp replies include a phone number that students can use for text messages or phone calls.

David Robertson, WCS chief academic officer, said, “We know that the foundation of an effective school is a safe and secure learning environment. In 2018, the learning environment extends to the places today's technology allows us go. Speak Up will enhance our ability to ensure for the care, welfare, safety and security of all students at WCS.”

Trained Gaggle safety representatives evaluate SpeakUp tips 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year. Representatives send an email regarding non-life-threatening items to designated school or district staff. They also will call school officials in emergency situations and can even contact local law enforcement.

Dr. David Hoffert, superintendent of WCS, said, “We are very eager to add this layer of support for our students and their safety. The SpeakUP connection will allow our students to immediately contact a professional for personal needs or if they see something that could cause dangerous to others. This new service expands our social and emotional wellness programs along with providing a safe school environment.”

Gaggle has been providing safe online learning products and solutions to the K-12 market since 1999. The company’s focus remains on student safety so educators can have the confidence to allow learners to take advantage of current technology for communication, collaboration and learning, according to the news release.
