MICHIGAN |  5,001 - 25,000 STUDENTS | SAFETY MANAGEMENT FOR GOOGLE

Postvention Support After Tragedy Strikes

The Challenge:

Situated approximately one hour north of Detroit, Oxford Community Schools serves almost 7,000 students across 12 schools in southern Michigan. The district recognized their need of online safety software after tragedy struck; a student killed four of his classmates and injured seven others at Oxford High School.

The Right Tool at the Right Time

The Solution:

While initially looking at Gaggle to promote digital citizenship for virtual learning students, Oxford Community Schools quickly realized the platform could help monitor for suicidal ideation, violence, and other signs of distress.

Students and Staff Reap the Benefits

The Results:

The district now has a “fleet team” of administrators and mental health professionals to respond to Gaggle alerts and has gained greater insight into students who are struggling. Gaggle has offered an additional layer of support, empowering staff with the data needed to keep students safe.

Other Case Studies

At the recommendation of the district’s superintendent, Vancouver Public Schools implemented Gaggle to help keep students safe when they use district-provided devices. Students, teachers, and administrators now have a centralized platform that they can rely on to monitor the use of technology and bring attention to serious issues.
After rolling out a 1:1 Chromebook program across grades K-8, this California district needed to ensure that students would be protected online. Gaggle has helped the district save a student life every year since its implementation and enabled educators to intervene in cases of bullying and self-harm.
This Ohio district has been using Gaggle for years, but the explosion of technology now makes the online student safety platform more critical than ever. When some grades moved to 1:1, Gaggle picked up on even more student situations, ensuring that administrators are making the right investment choice year after year.
