Bloomington, IL (January 7, 2016) – A new series on Showtime will feature an episode about people’s interactions with the Internet, including individuals employed as digital moderators, known as Student Safety Representatives at Gaggle, and how they cope with what they see while trying to keep the Internet clean.

The eight-part docuseries, “Dark Net,” which premieres this month, explores the furthest reaches of the Internet and the people who frequent it. The series provides a revealing and cautionary look inside a vast cyber netherworld rarely witnessed by most of us. Provocative, thought-provoking and frequently profound, each episode illuminates an exciting, ever-expanding frontier where people can do anything and see anything, whether they should or not. The series is intended for mature audiences. Viewer discretion is advised. The upcoming episode, entitled “CTRL,” will air on Showtime, February 11, at 11 p.m.

“Dark Net” is created by Vocativ, a media and technology company known for telling original, compelling stories using proprietary software to uncover trends, news leads and sources. Executive producers include David Shadrack Smith of Part2 Pictures, an Emmy-winning production company known for projects including CNN’s “This Is Life with Lisa Ling,” Oprah Winfrey’s “Belief” for OWN and “Dixie Mafia” on Discovery Channel.

“We wanted to show how Gaggle helps protect the most vulnerable of all of us, our children,” said Smith. “The employees at Gaggle are passionate about what they do and that comes through in this episode.”

This past summer, Part2 Pictures visited Gaggle’s headquarters in Bloomington, IL, to film and interview the company’s Student Safety Representatives. These employees are trained professionals who monitor student communications and review questionable content found in email, shared documents and other files, determine the severity of a situation and contact school or district emergency personnel when necessary.

Thousands of school districts and schools across the country use Gaggle Safety Management, which is integrated with the company’s Safe Learning Management System, as well as Google Apps for Education and Microsoft Office 365.

“We’re always looking to cast as wide a net as possible to let everyone know about our valuable services that help keep children safe,” said Rob Yoegel, Vice President of Marketing at Gaggle. “Our team of Student Safety Representatives have a tough job and the impact they make should be shared to a broad audience.”
