The Gaggle Story
As an entrepreneur in the field of technology and education, Gaggle’s founder, Jeff Patterson, wanted to bring the power of digital communication to schools to engage and motivate students. Understanding that student safety was a primary concern for schools in allowing the use of email and other tools, Jeff created a system that filters messages and allows control and access for teachers and administrators.
Since the inception of Gaggle as a student email provider, the company has grown significantly, continually adding popular features for communication and collaboration, all within a safe environment. Gaggle now includes Assignments, Blogs, Calendars, Chat, Class Pages, Digital Lockers, Discussion Boards, GaggleTube, Instant Messaging, Social Walls and more.
Jeff is frequently asked why he chose the name “Gaggle.” As you may know, gaggle is the name for a large group of geese. According to Jeff, “Our goal was to give teachers an easy way to watch over their gaggle of students, hence the name Gaggle.”
Jeff’s vision of student-centric schools using cutting-edge technology to inspire creativity and ingenuity in today’s students remains the driving force in Gaggle’s continuing story.
Jeff Patterson is the founder and CEO of Gaggle, a leading educational technology company specifically created for K-12. Since its inception as a student email provider in 1999, Jeff has successfully grown the privately held company based in Bloomington, IL, to more than 70 employees located across the country. Gaggle features built-in processes and classroom workflows designed to promote educator and student productivity. The company also provides learning management, professional development, websites, and archiving solutions to hundreds of school districts and millions of users.
Corey Vail serves as Chief Financial Officer at Gaggle, overseeing all of the financial and administrative functions for the organization. Corey brings more than 15 years of accounting and finance experience with him to Gaggle, having served in senior management roles with both large publicly traded companies (LEXIS-NEXIS, ADM) and privately held mid-sized organizations (Kathryn Beich Fundraising, Afni). His experience has specialized in streamlining operations through technology utilization and best practice implementation, often reducing costs by 15-20% in the face of increasing business volumes.
Aaron Hughes is responsible for fostering Gaggle’s technical innovations and overseeing the engineering and operations teams. Aaron has over 17 years experience in senior product development, technical architecture, and management positions in both early stage technology startups and large technology enterprises. While an Enterprise Architect at Sun Microsystems he co-invented patented technology in the field of distributed data management.
Heather is responsible for customer operations at Gaggle. Her teams include customer service, account management and training all with an overall goal to support Gaggle customers to ensure they are getting the most out of our products. Heather brings over 13 years of experience in customer relations and training from both the corporate sector and the K-12 environment. She is also responsible for the development, implementation and presentation of onsite professional development sessions.
Andrea uses her passion for motivating student learning to promote technology integration in today’s classrooms. Over the past 20 years, Andrea has taught elementary school in California, Colorado and Illinois, mentored colleagues as a technology coach, and served on school district committees for curriculum mapping, data-driven instruction and writing instruction. She works closely with sales, marketing, customer operations and product development, and is a frequent presenter at education conferences across the country.
Bill McCullough leads Gaggle’s national sales efforts. Bill is a seasoned sales professional with over two decades experience in education and commercial accounts. Prior to joining Gaggle, he was Vice President at Odysseyware, a provider of online curriculum and learning solutions. Bill also spent time as a Regional Vice President at CompassLearning, which followed a 13-year career in various management roles at IBM.
Rob Yoegel is a creative visionary, content strategist, skilled writer, digital publishing professional, effective communicator and marketer who embraces and enjoys new technology. He has developed an award-winning content marketing program and spent more than a decade building successful content, sales and marketing initiatives for a business-to-business and consumer enthusiast publishing company.
